“It was a great honour to be asked to present at the Closing Ceremony of the World Forum on Early Care and Education in Vancouver last week.

Looking out from the stage to see over 750 people from 57 countries listening, smiling and applauding the children’s story about The Spectacular Find - Saving the Great Barrier Reef was amazing.

And then to witness the entire audience dancing and singing ‘Save the Reef’, led by Peter Morgan Music 4 Children was magical.

Everyone in the ballroom connected with the children’s joy and hope, and celebrated their immense sense of commitment and advocacy to save the Great Barrier Reef.

The children’s knowledge, competency and ability to be agents of change shone so brightly.” Catherine, our Director.

Our hearts are full ❤️❤️❤️

Wow! what an honour for you and the community of early learners at The Point Preschool. The children will be so excited to hear their voices were echoed across the world and had such a positive impact. Congratulation Catherine.

Very impressive!! Proud of you possum 💜💜

Just wonderful Catherine! Was there a CD of the song that Tomas and some of the children sang on? Is it possible to get a copy if there is?

Congratulations The Point Preschool - this is wonderful, generating such care and love of learning about the ecosystem on the part of the children. This is exactly the sort of curious engagement with nature our environment needs. Thank you for all you do.

There were many loving and moving comments made by participants and global leaders at this incredible gathering. I was so proud and honoured to be asked by the children to be a part of awesome, creative project. Caring for our environment at home and sharing with the world will ensure all children’s voices will be heard! Environmental change starts with every turn of the earth. Starting on Dharawal Country for these children. Well done The Point Preschool♥️

Congratulations to all! “Knowing that you love the earth changes you, activates you to defend and protect and celebrate. But when you feel that the earth loves you in return, that feeling transforms the relationship from a one-way street into a sacred bond.” Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants

How absolutely wonderful,Catherine. Your beautiful heart manifests itself in your work. So wonderful that you touch the hearts of others with your passion. Very proud to know you both. ❤️

How beautiful to inspire others with your story - I bet it is a lasting impact 🧡

Well done Catherine and Peter. Very proud of you my friends.

Magical stuff Point Preschool I love the way you question explore and connect deeply with issues we face in this world, in our need to look after what we are gifted to live, play and learn on this land. ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️

Where did today’s wind come from?

Although quite anonymous and invisible in the air… we could hear the rustle of the leaves coming from the trees above.

The wind was spotted causing havoc, as it blew across the grass, collecting books and paper in its path.

Spotted in the air was a soft white feather, free from the Avarian owner and fluttering away… off on its own adventure!

As we finished our time together at Nature Play this morning, we set hundreds of bubbles free… each time wondering in which direction they might go… can you guess which way the bubbles went?

If you thought ‘in every direction’… you would be right!

Yes, it was a very windy day for our last morning together this school term.

Nature Play will return to Green Point Reserve 1st May 2024.

Our Nature Play gathering every Wednesday seems to be inspired by a collaborative relationship between what we observe regularly and the expectation that something new and different within the environment will join us with the coming of the next season.

Have you noticed how the days are almost still as warm as they were in Summer? Insects in the reserve are taking advantage of the warm days and our observations today support this. Today we recorded seeing a Blue-banded Bee, a Honey Bee, a caterpillar, and an orange butterfly still enjoying the warm sun.

Today the children were given the language to make meaning of the environment on a warm sunny day… as the cooler days approach… the language we share will grow and shift as smoothly as the changing of the seasons.

Over the last few weeks, the children have joyfully engaged in building a ball run. Their imagination, problem-solving, creativity, risk-taking, persistence, engineering skills, and resilience has been a joy to witness.

Each day they create the most amazing ball runs. They collaborate, experiment, build, test, and rebuild. Their dedication to joyful play is honoured by all of us.

Would love to know what the black long piece of rubber is made from/where it was purchased from? Such a wonderful resource!

May it be so for all children … younger and older than this and everywhere… we lose so much in the schooling process. We unlearn our creativity, we unlearn our kindness. Thank you for continuing to the beacon of light where children remain central and where the most important learning for life is still paramount. May the children and educators at the point continue to remind us grown up ‘know it all’s’ that we have a lot we can learn from the playful dispositions of childhood. ✨✨✨

Today we found more frog spawn in our frog pond. We are so excited as we know frogs are still visiting our pond and they may now move into our new frog hotel that we built on Tuesday.

A special thank you to Nate and his family for the pipes we used to build our very first frog hotel. And thank you to everyone who has donated pipes for our project. We will be building another frog hotel very soon.

From are welcome at Our Place!!!

What is a memory?
Today the Nature Play children created their own memories sourced from the world around them.

Enriched with texture, beauty, and a sense of uniqueness everywhere you look… memories were discovered and made.

I wonder if the children will remember the first time, they found a Cassia flower’s petals fallen like confetti on the ground?

Or the first time the children really noticed the Angophora tree’s sap didn’t smell but looked as shiny as the shoes below?

And… the Angophora tree’s root system travelled under their shiny shoes, just below the grass? Will the children remember the roots were described as the tree’s drinking straws when finding water and nutrients?

Not all memories will remain but coming together for children, advocates for possibilities and opportunities to revisit familiar environments often. Our Nature Play mornings assist the senses to observe, wonder, enquire, and construct their unique memories of our time together at Nature Play.

What wonderful weather, there was today to celebrate ‘International Frog Day’.

Despite the drizzling raindrops escaping the clouds above, we trekked on Country to the familiar Frog Hollow to ensure the tadpoles were enjoying the rain!

Using light from a torch, we saw too many tadpoles to count. One thing we are certain of…is there are definitely more than three tadpoles calling this habitat home. What are they eating we wondered? Wild tadpoles feast on algae, plant matter, and even the remains of their own egg.

Some other Fun Facts about frogs are, that they are amphibians, they have excellent night vision, are very sensitive to any movement, and only male frogs call out. Frogs use their bulging eyes to swallow food by pulling their eyes back down into the roof of their mouth to help push the food down their throat.

Frogs are an excellent indicator of how healthy an environment is and are extremely vulnerable to pesticides … so if you hear frogs in your habitat, congratulations! You are sharing your space with some happy healthy frogs!
